Growing Concerts about a Potential Cancer Cluster in the Acreage
If you are living in the acreage in Palm Beach County, Florida, then you have no doubt heard about the cancer cluster in the acreage, if not from the news, then more likely directly from friends and family members who are being diagnosed with brain tumors or you have had a pet die with similar problems.
I have recently moved here to Loxahatchee and found out about this from the news. Then a few weeks later, on August 26, 2009, a friend of my nephews who is a 17 year old male came over and gave us the bad news. He was having headaches, then the night before, was getting dizzy and blacking out. After a trip to the emergency room in the night, they did an MRI and they found a brain tumor. His data is not even on the cancer cluster maps yet… Then he told us, both of his parents also have cancer, I can’t even imagine how it feels to be in his family. The problem here starts to feel very real, as I am living HERE now! I now wonder if the water is safe, is there a problem in the soil or with excessive electrical or radio signals? Is the pet I brought with me safe to drink the water and live outside?
Once one becomes aware of something, it raises more questions about what to do next. Obviously there is something going on here above the norm and it seems part of an official study would include testing more residents by giving them MRI’s and by testing the soil and well water in as many cases as possible, to see how extensive the problem is and to find out where the source of contamination is. Once that is found out, then at least you know what preventative measures to take. This seems to be the most important, yet government official studies move slow, so what can an individual do in the mean time while you wait a year more for the most recent study to complete?
My heart goes out to everyone here and I want to try to do something to help the people in this area, as well as to help identify the cause and build energy to come together to support one another and to get answers. For that reason, today I did research and collected links, cancer cluster maps and resources, and make this web page so that others seeking the same resources and support can find it more readily.

The Acreage Cancer Study website has been developed to help share information to those who live in or around the Acreage (which includes Loxahatchee, Unincorporated West Palm, and parts of Royal Palm Beach) in Florida. Please make sure you, your friends, or your fellow family members who have been affected, fill out the Patient Listing Form. If you do not fill out the form, you will not be included in the study.
This web site has an impressive map of individually reported cases with type of cancer / tumor and where they live in the acreage. This map reflects data they have collected via personal emails & phone calls, which was self-reported by residents. Each bullet on the map includes the following information: adult or child, male or female, diagnosis, and if a brain tumor if it was malignant or non-malignant. There is also a forum, blog, press articles, statistics and contact information for public health agencies, government officials and others.
